8. The Elephants by Salvador Dali,1948
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Dali's The Elephants contains similar spider-legged elephants as seen in two of his other paintings, The Temptation of Saint Anthony and Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee Around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening. The elephants with thin, elongated legs and heavy-weighted bodies are emphasizing the strength and weight that the creatures possess. Dali also included his hometown in the background, opening the painting up to further analytical debate.
