Trendsetter: Stacy Peralta and Tony Alva

Even though Vans sneakers were first released in the mid-'60s, it didn't take the world by storm until 1970 when a couple of young skateboarders from Southern California by the name of Stacy Peralta and Tony Alva took a liking to their vulcanized sole, rugged uppers, and cheap price. Since skateboarding is synonymous with "cool," it didn't take long for everyone to want a pair of Vans. We would bet a pretty penny you own a pair now, don't you?
