Look At This! Portrait Made From 5,500 Toy Soldiers

A reproduction of a 1938 LIFE cover, in toys.

We've seen portraits and art works of all sorts of materials recently. To recap, there have been push pin odes to Jay-Z, a tiger made of cigarettes, and even works created by removing dust from a car. This portrait, made of 5,500 toy soldiers, falls in line.

Artist Joe Black reproduced Robert Capa's 1938 cover photograph of a Chinese Soldier from LIFE Magazine by adhering the toys to a vertical surface. The result is rather amazing, with the multi-colored soldiers combining to form one single man. The work, Made In China, was originally shown at the Moniker Art Fair in London late last year.
