Brian McGrattan has played nine NHL seasons, most recently for Calgary from 2012-15, and he's made a career out of being an enforcer. On Tuesday night, now playing in the minor leagues for the AHL's San Diego Gulls, McGrattan met his match.
A fight with the San Antonio Rampage’s Daniel Maggio ended about as poorly as possible for McGrattan, when he fell and slammed into the ice after apparently being knocked out cold by a punch to the face.
As we warned you in the headline, the video is disturbing to watch, mainly because of the fall and the fact that McGrattan was motionless on the ice for at least a few minutes. He was reportedly carted off on a stretcher, but the team said afterward that he should ultimately be fine.
And McGrattan himself confirmed as much.
Based on this message (and how he's chosen to play the game over the years), it doesn't sound like McGrattan will be shying away from confrontations like this in the future.
