UFC fighter Jon "Bones" Jones was reportedly involved in some sort of car accident in Albuquerque Sunday morning that could put his May 23rd UFC 187 title fight against Anthony Johnson in jeopardy, reports MMAWeekly.
Initial reports stated that Jones was involved in a hit-and-run and ended up fleeing the scene, but those reports have not been confirmed by any reputable source. Then, Albuquerque Police tweeted that they couldn't confirm that it was Jones who was involved in the accident.
We CANNOT confirm that Jon Jones was involved in a H&R traffic accident from this morning. The investigation is ongoing.— Albuquerque Police (@ABQPOLICE) April 26, 2015
@FrontRowBrian, an MMA insider who initially reported a wave of things about Jones, has backtracked on much of his information. But his latest tweet about the incident states that Jones was in fact involved in a car accident but is not currently in custody.
Jon Jones is NOT in custody. All I can confirm is that Jon was involved in a car accident and we’ll have to see how it plays out.— FrontRowBrian® (@FrontRowBrian) April 26, 2015
So while we don't know too much right now, it certainly seems as if Jones was involved in some sort of car accident. We will update you as more information comes out, so stick with us.
UPDATE (9:12 p.m.): The Albuquerque police told MMAFighting.com that they would like to question Jones about a hit-and-run accident. Per APD, a middle-aged woman's car was struck Sunday morning, and the driver of the other vehicle involved fled the scene. The APD would not say whether or not Jones was a suspect, just that they wanted to question him. They are currently unaware of Jones' whereabouts.
