Los Angeles Lakers head coach and grumpy old man Byron Scott has been a treasure trove of head-scratching quotes during the 2014-2014 NBA season. He doesn't believe in shooting a high volume of 3-pointers. He thinks Jeremy Lin is soft. He wanted Kobe Bryant to shoot more.
But his latest comments regarding the MVP race may be the most surreal of all. According to ESPN's Baxter Holmes, this is a thing Scott actually said to people recording his voice. In public.
Byron Scott on MVP race: "I'm biased. I think Kobe should be in the conversation."

Um, wut? Scott does know Bryant only played 35 games this season before going down with a season-ending injury, right? And he knows Kobe shot 37 percent from the field, the lowest of his career, right? Like, he watched Kobe just jack up 3's with four dudes in his face just because there was no way in hell he's passing the ball to Jeremy Lin, didn't he?
Maybe Bryon was praising Kobe's leadership skills.
Yeah....nah.
Perhaps Coach Scott was just kidding around. Or perhaps he just gets more and more out of touch with modern basketball by the day. But keep doing you, Byron.
