Last week, a group of students from Flower Mound High School in Flower Mound, Texas made national headlines when they got caught holding signs that said "White Power" on them during a game against their rival Plano East Senior High School. Plano East player Devin Gifford got wind of the signs after the game and posted a photo of them on Twitter for all to see:

This is ridiculous I thought we passed the racial stage of society. pic.twitter.com/xonnf18mUy

And the ensuing story went viral. Within days, both the Flower Mound superintendent and the Flower Mound head coach issued apologies. The school also promised to ban students from bringing signs to future games. But local sportscaster Dale Hansen wants people to do more.

During a segment earlier this week, Hansen spoke very openly and honestly about racism as it relates to Texas and the local community. He admitted that he grew up in a racist household, called out parents and grandparents for teaching their kids to hate, and made a passionate plea for change. It was exactly what people needed to hear after what happened.

Watch Hansen's speech in the clip above. He really made the most of a terrible situation.
