Ray Rice was in court today to answer to the assault charges filed against him back in February that stemmed from a fight he had with his girlfriend.

Back in February, Ray Rice was arrested in Atlantic City, N.J. for allegedly assaulting his girlfriendJanay Palmer at the Revel Casino and Hotel. And truth be told, it looked like the Ravens running back was going to get into big trouble for doing it. This video of him dragging Palmer out of an elevator made him look absolutely terrible, and it appeared he was definitely going to have to serve some time in jail because of it:

However, now it sounds like Rice might be getting off relatively easy. Earlier today, Rice appeared in court in Mays Landing, N.J. with Palmer—who is now his wife—by his side and pleaded not guilty to a third-degree aggravated assault charge. Further, he applied for a pretrial intervention program that would help him avoid prosecution and give him no jail time. Instead, if he qualifies for the program, he will be forced to undergo anger management but he won't be subjected to any additional penalties.

For now, Rice will have to wait and see if he qualifies for the program. He's due back in court on May 29.
