The city's all-new bike-share program, Citi Bike, peddled into trouble on Sunday when an enterprising thief stole one of the bikes as it was being installed on a rack in lower Manhattan.
Workers, busy with hundreds of other bikes, didn't notice the bike was gone until it was too late; the crook was able ride off into the sunset with the $825 bike.
Oddly, a Citi Bike is the perfect bicycle for thieves. It has no distinguishing characteristics, is made of high quality material, and can be dismantled or painted with little effort.
Not to be Debbie Downers here, but we give Citi Bike a 1-10 chance of surviving for more than a year in the Big Apple.
