Series: Hornets in three.
The Heat went through a lot before the 2001 season. They had a bunch of veterans in "win now" mode, but their franchise player Alonzo Mourning was diagnosed with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, a life-threatening kidney disease. He played in only 13 games that season and was no where near the same player when he returned for Miami's first round matchup against the team that drafted him No. 2 overall in 1992. With Zo's diminished skills coupled with Baron Davis and Jamal Mashburn, Charlotte overwhelmed the Heat. The Hornets ran away with a 3-0 sweep, winning by a margin of 22.3 points per game.
