Ah, the yule log. It's as traditional as Santa Claus, candy canes, and paying $300 for a toy that your kid will play with for 47 seconds on Christmas Day before telling you that he's "bored." But, this year, it's also causing a lot of problems in one Canadian city.

You see, the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders wanted to spread a little holiday cheer. So, someone in their front office decided that the best way to do that was to display the yule log on the gigantic scoreboard that hangs in front of the Roughriders' Mosaic Stadium. Only problem? It seems the locals didn't get the memo about the yule log. So, every so often, one of them calls the Regina Fire Department to report a huge fire at Mosaic Stadium. Some even say that they can smell smoke and urge the fire department to get to the stadium ASAP to put out the blaze.

But, of course, there is no fire! So, RFD deputy fire chief Gerard Kay is trying to get the Roughriders to do something about the problem. Specifically, he wants them to replace the yule log with, well, anything but the yule log.

"Maybe some snowflakes or Santa or something like that," Kay said recently.

That's probably for the best.
