Bounties in baseball? And you thought pay-for-play was the exclusive domain of the NFL and SEC football. Yesterday, after blowing his first save of the season, Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon offered a $5000 reward if a teammate got him off the hook. Well, Jim Thome took him up on the offer, and not only won the game for the Phillies in the 10th inning with a solo homer, but set the all-time record for walk-off bombs in the process. Thome was seen yelling "I want that check" as he approached the plate. Let's hope Pap keeps the receipt—that is a work-related expense, right?
