More than a week after it happened, Kendrick Perkins is still being asked to relive Blake Griffin's ridiculous dunk over him. But, in an interview with Yahoo! Sports that took place recently, he admits that he actually doesn't mind what happened. Playing tough D is a part of his game and, from time to time, that's going to result in him getting dunked on posterized.
"That's my job," he said. "How will my teammates look at me if next time I just back out of the way and just let him dunk when I'm supposed to be defensive-minded, a shot-blocker? That would be a coward move on me. He'd just have to dunk on me again."
What he does mind, though, is the way that some people reacted to Griffin's dunk. He respects Griffin for not making a big deal out of it. But he doesn't like that LeBron Jamestook to his Twitter account to call Griffin's slam the "dunk of the year!" And during the same Yahoo! Sports interview, he ripped Bron-Bron for doing it.
"You don't see Kobe tweeting," he said. "You don't see Michael Jordan tweeting. If you're an elite player, plays like that don't excite you. At the end of the day, the guys who are playing for the right reasons who are trying to win championships are not worrying about one play. They also are not tweeting about themselves talking about going down to No. 2. I just feel [LeBron] is always looking for attention and he wants the world to like him."
Um, ya think? Tell us something we don't know, KP. Now, can we please move on from this Griffin dunk—and all of the stories surrounding it—please?
