The Texas Legends, the Dallas Mavericks' NBA Development League affiliate, picked up 38-year-old Greg Ostertag this week, and tonight is the night he makes his debut. The seven-foot-two shot-blocking machine has been out of organized basketball for five years. He told D-League reporter Kevin Scheitrum that he was simply tired of it after 11 seasons. But after several years of sitting around, he believes he can give two more solid years of play.

"My motivation is just to go do it," Ostertag said. "There are naysayers out there saying 'there’s no way – he wasn’t that great when he played.' I wasn’t an All-Star. I’ll be the first to admit it. But people knew I was there when I was there."

With Tyson Chandler gone, and an obvious hole in the Dallas Mavericks defense, there is some speculation that this might be a stretch to see if Ostertag can quickly get back into shape and immediately contribute. Considering he hasn't been practicing or training at all, we find it hard to believe he'll be able to make a huge difference, but we're definitely excited to see the veteran back on the court.
