We’ve brought you reporting on the Brooklyn Museum’s Art Off the Wall: The Rise of Sneaker Culture, but their programing is stated to continue as long as the exhibit is on display. On July 16, the museum featured a panel of female sneakerheads as a part of the investigation of all aspects of the sneaker community. The topic: how the industry has failed women who are as passionate about sneakers as their male counterparts.

The assembled panel included Sophia Chang, Susan Boyle, April Walker, and Sole De Vida, who each offered their own candid takes.

“There is so much cool stuff for guys and it doesn’t come in our size. Or if it does, they’ll take something out and tweak it a little different, use cheaper material, or change the silhouette. They’re not thinking about us, who we are, and I think that’s one of the biggest problems we have,” said Boyle, as reported by Fashionista.com.

Perhaps the most striking observation that was offered came from the moderator, Sean Williams who pointed out how ignored female athletes are when it comes to signature sneakers. Players like Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, and Blake Griffin all have signatures shoes but none of them have a championship. Meanwhile, Maya Moore has two championships and no signature sneaker. Even Serena Williams' signature shoe is practically an adaptation of Kobe Bryant's.
