In August, Sneaker Report flashed back to Ichiro Suzuki's 2004 run where he reached 200 hits during the season.
Today, we advance to October 1, 2004, where Ichiro's hit streak ventured into historic territory. As the Seattle Mariners hosted the Texas Rangers in an 8-3 win, Ichiro hit three singles during the game. This put him at 259 hits total during the '04 season, which surpassed an MLB record that had been in place since George Sisler's total of 257 in 1920. Ichiro's career-defining run ended at 262 hits, which stands as the most of all time in a single season. Considered to be one of the greatest batters ever, Ichiro continues to add to his legacy as an outfielder for the New York Yankees.
Further adding to Ichiro's uniqueness is his line of exclusive Asics signature cleats. Although Asics isn't widely known for their baseball products, they've been lacing Ichiro in signature models since 1995. Unfortunately for fans of the Japanese slugger, these cleats have not been made available in the States. However, the Asics Japan website features a comprehensive timeline of Ichiro's signature styles throughout the years.
