There's nothing more disheartening than having a win stolen away from you in a game's closing moments, but that's exactly what happened to the New York Mets tonight. As they took on the division rival Washington Nationals at Nationals Park in DC, New York maintained a 4-2 lead all the way until the 7th inning where the lead extended to 5-3. Things were looking good for New York until the bottom of the 8th, when the Nats scored three runs and took the lead 6-5. As New York took the plate in the top of the 9th, they were unable to score and Washington went home with the win.
Despite the heartbreaking loss, Mets centerfielder Matt den Dekker was solid from the plate. Dekker hit 2-3, driving home an RBI and hitting a home run in the top of the second. Unfortunately, the Mets were unable to hold on to the lead which Dekker helped to build.
