You've seen the soccer-inspired Nike Kobe 8 "Mambacurial," which blends the silhouette of the Kobe 8 System hoops shoe with the Mercurial Vapor IX cleat. But soccer mixed with skateboarding? Hold tight, because that's exactly what Nike SB and the team at Thrasher Magazine have up their sleeve.

The first news of the SB Lunar Gato variation hit last month, and action sports store Tactics currently has the model listed as "coming soon," although an official release date has yet to be established. In the meantime, N-SB has provided a look at a special edition version of the model created in collaboration with storied skate mag Thrasher.

Dubbed the "Strike and Destroy," a preview of the black-and-orange colorway can be seen in the gallery above, along with the standard black SB Lunar Gato. The SB Lunar Gato plays off the design of the Lunar Gato II indoor soccer shoe and has been beefed up for added durability and protection.

The story of how the SB Lunar Gato came about may surprise you. Nike SB team member Alex Olson was in line to receive his own signature model, but instead suggested that Nike revamp the Gato for skating after trying out the soccer version. The result is the Olson-endorsed SB Lunar Gato. A true example of Nike living up to their "engineered to the exact specifications of championship athletes" mantra.
