If there was ever an effective tool to dissuade you from having a family, it's David Cronenberg's excellent 1979 horror freak show The Brood. Enraged by her son-of-a-bitch husband's (Art Hindle) abusive ways, Nola Carveth (Samantha Eggar) literally embodies her anger, numerous times, in the form of inhuman, bloodthirsty, asexual kids without navels.

Telepathically engineered to kill, Nola's devilish brood helped Cronenberg's film to redefine the overused horror term "creepy kid movie," and, subsequently, set a standard that's yet to be outdone. —MB
