All of the spoilers for Game of Thrones, season 7, episode 6 ("Beyond the Wall") lie ahead. Proceed at your own risk.

If you were glued to HBO via your TV or phone or laptop or tablet (are those still a thing?) like much of the world Sunday night, you know that we lost a real one. One of Daenerys Targaryen's beloved dragons fell in an unexpected battle in the latest episode of Game of Thrones. As some fans predicted, Daenerys came to the aid of her nephew/potential lover Jon Snow, who had gone beyond the Wall in the previous episode to capture a White Walker to bring to Cersei Lannister in an attempt to get the ruthless queen to join forces with the living in the inevitable upcoming fight against the undead.

Daenerys brought her three "children" with her to rescue Jon and the Westerosi Suicide Squad, and all seemed to be going well at first: Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion were lighting ice monsters up left and right. But then, the Night King had to go and ruin everything by throwing an ice javelin through the chest of the majestic Viserion, causing the creature to literally crash and burn. There was a resounding chorus of "nos" and "bruhs" and "fucks" all across Twitter as it happened, and nothing will ever be the same again.

Some were (miraculously) able to find humor in the moment.

A dragon died, yes, but the dragons attacked the walkers so there were faults on many sides, on many sides #GameOfThrones #GoT
season 2 dany: WHERE ARE MY DRAGONS
season 7 dany: sigh viserion died so i guess we aren't getting chinese today

But most of us were just traumatized.

As if Dany losing one of her children wasn't bad enough, at the end of the episode, we see that it's about to get even worse. Because the fucking savagery that is Game of Thrones must go on, the episode ends with a glimpse of the army of the undead carrying massive chains across the ice beyond the Wall. After what seems like an eternity, the cold soldiers finally reveal what's at the end of the chains, and it's, of course, dead ass Viserion. The Night King walks up to him, puts one hand to the dragon, and we're left with a chilling last scene that shows us that shit is about to get real.

This was painful to watch. Viserion deserved better. pic.twitter.com/xHbdYsFOL2
Viserion joining the Wightwalkers is worse than when Kevin Durant joined the Warriors. I'm broken, man #GameOfThrones pic.twitter.com/vjYoAjcq0k

There's only one episode left in the penultimate season of one of the biggest shows on Earth. Hackershave made this season's rollout messy AF, so all we can do at this point is hope HBO can hold it together until Sunday night.
