Japanese Inside-Out Boiled Eggs Are Insane

Japan has a long tradition of freaking us out with bizarre foodstuffs, but one of the simplest might actually be the weirdest.

Unearthed by Asian news blog Rocket News 24, it’s essentially a reverse hard boiled egg—a egg with the white in the middle and the yolk around the outside. It’s simple, yet really, really weird.

And unlike a lot of crazy Japanese delicacies, this is something you can make at home and don’t have to book a flight to Tokyo to try. It’s done by spinning the egg repeatedly before it is cooked, so that the centrifugal forces put the yolk to the outside and vice versa. The video below is in Japanese, but it’s pretty simple to follow. Just cover the egg in tape to protect it, then find something to spin it around in.
