A marriage proposal involving 99 iPhone 6s went about as badly as possible.

The iPhone 6 basically has limitless power. It has been known to cause explosions in your pants and even make dead people tell you to buy one, so you'd think integrating some into a marriage proposal would be a perfect fit. For one Chinese man, however, things went very, very wrong.

A computer programmer from Guangzhou decided to propose to his girlfriend in the middle of a heart constructed entirely of 99 iPhone 6 boxes, a ridiculously expensive idea. How much do 99 iPhone 6s cost? If you’re paying standard retail and get the absolute cheapest version without a contract, that’s 99 × $649. Total cost: $64,251 (plus tax).

An already expensive and no doubt emotionally draining experience got way worse when the girlfriend said “no” as a fairly sizable crowd looked on:

The truly sad part of this rejection is how incredibly public this dumping was. Much like how a "handshake" virus spreads, each spectator will tell a couple friends, then they'll each tell a few more, and soon this poor man will never be able to talk to a woman again.

The good news is that, if he actually did have phones in those boxes, he acutally could make a nice little profit on the secondary market. It would be an ambitious, large-scale project, but it could ultimately end up being a highly profitable one as well. Given how hard it still is to get a new phone, there’s definitely 99 people who would pay an extra $50-100 just to avoid the hassle.
