In case you had any skepticism about the power of a Godzilla remake (we did), check this weekend's box office numbers. After taking in $38.5 million domestically on Friday night, it looks like the monster remake will hit close to $100 million.

This movie opens sixteen years after the colossal flop that was the Matthew Broderick remake of Godzilla. This version, though, is an origin story that supposedly stays closer to its Japanese roots. Godzilla stars Ken Watanabe, Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche and more.

Neighbors came in at number two, making it officially a hit. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 held at number three with The Other Woman rounding out number four.
