John Pike, the former UC Davis police officer who rose to infamy after he was recorded pepper spraying students at point blank range during the university's Occupy protests in November 2011, wants the university to pay him workers' compensation for the alleged "psychiatric injuries" the incident left him with.
On Aug. 13, Pike will reportedly attend a settlement conference in Sacramento, Calif. where it will be decided if his case is worth the time. If there is no settlement, a follow-up hearing or trial date will be determined. Pike was placed on paid leave for eight months after the video went viral and resulted in public outrage. Last July, he was officially terminated by the university.
Pike made $121,680 per year after ascending to the rank of lieutenant.
