Lost in New York City? Have no fear, because the Department of Transportation has sanctioned the installation of new maps that also provide directions. The maps have already been placed near Chinatown and more are expected to be added to Prospect Heights, Crown Heights, Long Island City and Midtown. By next summer, 100 maps are expected to be set up around the city.
Each map will be 8 1/2 feet tall and 18 to 50 inches wide. They will include information about where pedestrians are currently located based on their surroundings, as well as instructions and the distance between landmarks such as subway stations and other neighborhoods.
After a Department of Transportation survey revealed that a third of respondents could not identify which way was North, these maps could prove to be a saving grace.
