European Wii U customers have reportedly run into a strange problem attempting to purchase 18+-rated Wii U games from the system's digital eShop. Apparently, games rated 18 and above can only be accessed between the hours of 11 p.m. and 3 a.m., because that's when all adults are awake and when all children automatically fall asleep. Obviously.

Nintendo reportedly sent the following statement back to one curious customer:

Dear customer, we would like to let you know that Nintendo has always aimed to offer gameplay experiences suited to all age groups, observing carefully all the relevant regulations regarding content access that are present in the various European countries. We have thus decided to restrict the access to content which is unsuitable to minors (PEGI) to the 11 P.M. - 3 A.M. time window

Not being in Europe, we can't test this out ourselves, but Eurogamer (which is in Europe) reported receiving the same error message as other users.

Should Nintendo be restricting purchases like this? What about people who don't even have kids? Won't somebody please think of the children?
