It's been a long time coming, but Sony's finally ready to say goodbye to the PS2. The question is: are you?
Japanese magazine Famitsu reported on Friday that the PlayStation 2, which dominated sales in its own generation and managed to stay relevant and in production for over a decade, will no longer be produced by Sony once the current batch goes out to retailers in Japan. Our advice: if you don't have one, go buy one. Like, stat.
Of course, third-party alternatives will eventually spring up, just like with the SNES and other retro consoles. We hope so, at least. And some peoples' PS3s still play PS2 games. So it's not like you'll never get to play the likes of Final Fantasy X, Persona 3 and Shadow of the Colossus ever again.
Nevertheless, doesn't it feel like we should have a funeral or something? A console that sold over 150 million units must have had an impact on quite a few lives. So we're planning to honor the PS2's legacy by staging a one-gun salute in the original Killzone tonight. What about you?
