"Taken 2" Performing Better Than Expected In Box Office

After pulling in an impressive $1.5 million in midnight showings, Taken 2 is already performing better than expected in the box office. As previously reported, the film was expected to take the top spot and take in about $35 million this weekend - a little over $10 million more than what the first film earned opening weeked - but now predictions put earnings at closer to $50 million for the next two days. On Friday alone, earnings were around $18.6 million across 3,661 theaters.

As for the weekend's other new release, Tim Burton's Frankenweenie only took in $3.3 million on Friday, ranking fifth in the box office overall.
