The iPhone 5 doesn't drop for another two days, but the next generation of Apple's mobile operating system, iOS 6, is available today for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

The update can be done as an over-the-air download if your device is connected to a Wi-Fi, or through iTunes. The upgrade is available for the majority of Apple's recent iOS devices. The only ones exempt are the original iPad and the iPhone 3G.

Originally announced at the 2012 Worldwide Developers Conference in June, iOS 6 will bring a host of new features including the ability to make FaceTime calls over your cellular network, deeper Facebook integration, an all-new Maps app made by Apple, a digital wallet service called Passbook, and new calling and Siri functionality.
