The journey to success can take you down a winding path, and Kacy Hill can testify to that. The Arizona native was signed to Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music label in late 2014, after years of training in classical music, a gig modeling for American Apparel, and even a stint as a backup dancer on the Yeezus tour.

Complex News caught up with Kacy Hill at UMG's Music is Universal space at the JW Marriott hotel in Austin, Texas, during SXSW, and she explained that Kanye first heard her music during the tour. From there, he couldn't contain his excitement.

"It was kind of insane, they flew me out to Atlantic City, and it was just really surreal," she said. "It almost didn't feel weird...just like, this is what's happening, this is life." There was definitely a moment during that meeting where Kanye "jumped off the couch" in excitement, and now that things have settled, Hill is finding her place within the rap-heavy roster.

"I think I'm an outsider to some extent and I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing," she said. "I think it's cool to bring something different to a label that does one thing and does it really well. I think that's the purpose of it."

So far, she's collaborated with Travi$ Scott on his Rodeo cut "90210" and it's clear that she's an asset to the team.

"I did something withTravi$ Scott, and it [was] actually a cool combination. I end up learning a lot from their writing and creative strategies, and I think they—hopefully—get something from me. I think it also brings more dimension to the label."
