Black History Month begins today, and Daye Jack is wasting no time addressing issues important to the community. He rang in the month by releasing the visuals for "Don't Shoot," a song he dropped last month on his SoundCloud page. The video tackles the heavy topics of police brutality, #BlackLivesMatter, and more, interspersing clips of civil rights marches and police beatings. "Living with my head down/Hands up/No, no don't shoot," he sings on the chorus. Run the Jewels' resident politico Killer Mike joins in, delivering a heavy verse about perceptions of black men in American society. The whole production sends a powerful message to begin a month of reflection and growth. You can check out the "Hands Up" video above.
