Alessia Cara delivered one of the best songs of 2015 with her debut single, "Here," a record about feeling uncomfortable at a notoriously boring party. She wrote it from the perspective of a teen, but it turns out even grown folk are connecting with the narrative. In the wake of winning the runner-up spot in BBC's Sound of 2016, the singer elaborated on the the impact of 2015's anti-social anthem. "I get messages from 14-year-old girls and 40-year-old males," she said. "[They're] all saying the same thing: 'I feel this way, too; I feel uncomfortable, too.'"

"You think that everyone else is having fun," Alessia told us last year. "I’m sure there were 10 other people in that room who felt the same. Maybe they were just good at hiding it. Not everyone has fun all the time." Turns out, Alessia was right. You can read Alessia's full interview at BBC. In case you were wondering, here's why "Here" was one of the best songs of the year.
