Leon Bridges' video for "Coming Home" induces a strong sense of retrophilia. His dedication to recreating the 60s soul crafted by the likes of Sam Cooke and Otis Redding continues in the visual for his first single for Columbia Records. We see a relationship that seems as wholesome and distant as an episode of Leave It to Beaver.
"I wanted to express a simple story of faithfulness," Bridges told Fader. "The video is basically my Instagram come to life—showing vignettes of a real relationship, me being caught up in the busy lane of life, but always longing to be with my loved one."
In an interview with The Guardian Bridges spoke about his dedication to the past. "I became so fascinated with that sound I wanted to recreate it exactly," he said. "It made me happy to make it identical. The simplicity just sounded so good."
