Dance Mania affiliate and the brains behind "French Kiss", Lil Louis, has some bad news for house music fans: his career may have been prematurely ended. During soundcheck for a gig at Manchester's Sankeys, someone, thought to be a promoter or manager, let off an airhorn near Lil Louis, permanently deafening the Chicago house legend and thus threatening his career. Lil Louis issued a statement on his Facebook page yesterday to "prevent any rumours from milling", in which he explained the dire situation and what it means for his plans for the future, which up until recently included finishing both his next album and a film project documenting Chicago house music.

"As he shot it, the compressed air that blasted out was louder and more shrill than anything I'd ever heard. It hurt so bad, I jumped in the air and screamed. The pain was followed by an intense ringing and muffled silence."

He went on to explain he was rushed to hospital, at which point he underwent a series of tests before being diagnosed with SIHL (sound induced hearing loss), a potentially career-ending condition. The full statement can be found on his Facebook page here.
