You have to love when producers show off their eclectic side. For this week's Five Tracks, Akka goes on one with his selections. From sinister Houston gangsta rap to Philip Glass, he runs the gamut on sound, but when you hear his forthcoming Amazigh EP (which is out on his Rwina imprint on May 5), you can detect the different vibes he picked up from each. This three-tracker has an EPROM feature on it, and does well with blending what was with what will be. As we await the day you can soak this project in, we present Akka's Five Tracks to give you an idea of what has possibly influenced him.
Surgeon - "Prowler"
This masterpiece where Surgeon started to lean more to the industrial sound in his productions still hits the spot. I bought three copies back in the day just to be sure that I can always can get my hands on this one. Also love the sample of Throbbing Gristle's "Hamburger Girl" in this track, also a tune that I love.
Aphex Twin - "Icct Hedral (Philip Glass Orchestration)"
Amazing piece of music. Bought this when I was in university and remember being amazed by Aphex's musical brilliance. Glass did a good job pointing it out by his orchestral rework.
Vex'd - "Bombardment of Saturn"
Of course we all know how big the impact was of their Degenerate LP, but this one really big as well.
Gangsta N-I-P - "Smokin Amp"
Dark gangsta rap from Houston. I had this phase where I was just listening to NIP, Bushwick, Esham, X-Raided, and such. It couldn't get enough hardcore for my taste.
Autechre - "Eutow"
This helped me through rough times. The whole album Tri Repitae has a special place.
