In a manner similar to how DJ Class' now legendary Baltimore club anthem "I'm the Shit" made the world believe (if for only a minute) that Bmore club was the solution to pop's acceptance of EDM in 2008, Say Wut's 2009-released track "Streets of Baltimore" was one of those moments wherein a producer so nailed the classic break-driven vibe of Baltimore club, while also delivering the more modernized frenetic energy necessary to match the hard electro of the period. Remaining prodigious in output as a producer in the five years since, March 26 finds Say Wut releasing his latest, the Clarion Bang EP, with Top Billin Records.

In listening to the preview, the trademark horns are still there, as bright (or sinister) as he needs them to sound. As always a student of how to stay a step ahead of the game while remaining true to his roots, lead single "R U Ready" samples marching band drums under a horn-laden melody, with a thumping bassline. "Come Get Some" adds a bit of bounce to trap's half-time mania, whereas "DFR" (short for "Damn Fuckin' Right") kicks off like something more akin to be a club remix of a southern rap song, then veers deep into the heart of UK garage. It's a surprising, yet inherently listenable and dance-floor ready turn. Closing out the EP, "Turn it Down" ushers in a dancehall feel for something feeling less like club and more like dancehall. It's a progressive sound, one directly in line in blending club with underground pop's most dominant and commercially sustainable style-at-present.
