There are many events in rap history that are either unknown or forgotten, from album releases to deaths to random ass events most of us can't even recall. As an attempt to remember those moments, Complex will share an event that helped shape hip-hop in a sometimes minor, sometimes major way. Join us as we look back on This Day in Rap History.
February 26, 2008
On February 26, 2008, Pete Rock released NY's Finest under the independently-owned label Nature Sounds. Like many of his previous albums, and like the title implies, NY's Finest features more than a few notable New York rappers, including Jim Jones, Raekwon, Masta Killa, and Redman. Pete Rock also raps on seven of the album's 17 tracks. The album premiered at the 193 spot on the Billboard 200 chart.
