T.I. apparently wanted to use a sample from Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" for his song with Kendrick Lamar and B.o.B, "Memories Back Then." The Grammy-winning song resonated with Tip, but Trouble Man didn't want any trouble when he found out that the sample couldn't be cleared, so they remixed their original, ending up with a new track that he considers to be "just as hot, if not hotter."
Despite things not working out as planned, Tip remains excited about the single and the "meaningful message" put forth by him and his peers, predicting it to be "one of the year's best collaboration records." Perhaps other rappers prone to sample scandals can take a tip from Tip, a businessman who takes care of his own due diligence.
