Music is getting harder and harder to put labels on. In decades past, it was easier to identify something as rock, pop, or hip-hop, but things aren't so clear-cut these days. Shadows On Stars is a boy-girl duo out of Portland that makes this pretty clear. They've crafted an album full of indie pop songs, but there are too many influences to name. Their sound pulls from garage rock, punk, new wave, electronic, and a little bit of everything in between. Call it whatever you want, but whatever it is, they've found a unique balance, and instead of this album sounding all over the place, it's a sharp, unified, and consistent debut. With songs this good, who really cares what we call it?
