90% Of Album Sales Came From 2% Of Albums Released Last Year

Some pretty disappointing news for the music biz.

None

We have some pretty staggering news on the music industry as reported by the folks over at Digital Music News. Apparently 2 percent of the albums released last year attributed for 88.5 percent of the total album sales.

And this is the way it all breaks down.

  • There were around 76,875 albums released in 2011 that sold at least one copy
  • Those same albums moved a total of 113 million units
  • 100 million of those sales came from just 2 percent (or 1,500) of the albums released last year
  • That means that there were around 75,735 albums that pushed a total of 13 million units

Wow.
