A new study suggests that man’s best friend could also be man’s best wingman. A team of researchers who surveyed over 1,200 online daters in the United States found that women were twice as likely as men to be attracted to someone just because they owned a pet.

When asked "Would you ever date someone who didn't like pets?" the majority of women said "no", while the number of men were evenly split between “yes” and “no”. The research team suggested that women's attraction to men with pets is most likely linked to his potential role as a partner and parent.

So the next time you’re thinking about copping new sneakers to impress your crush, maybe opt to adopt a dog instead
