A former New York City police officer was arrested on Sunday for spray-painting anti-Semitic graffiti on cars and buildings in a Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn.
The ex-cop, Michael Setiawan, was picked up by police Saturday night after calls about Swastikas and other anti-Semitic graffiti appearing in Borough Park, Brooklyn. Borough Park Shomrim, a neighborhood watch group, shared a video with a Jewish news website of Setiawan spray-painting a door. He has be charged with criminal mischief and hate crime.
Setiawan was a police officer for two years before leaving the force in 2007 for unspecified reasons. Since then, he has been arrested six times, but the charges against him were sealed.
Melissa Mark-Viverito, the City Council speaker, told The New York Times that Setiwan's messages were “outrageous, sickening and have no place in New York City, period.”
