When city planners of Wujin, China decided to expand one of their government buildings, they hired Australian architecture firm studio505 to help them design a spectacular addition. The original structure, an underground building below a lake, provided the perfect setting for the natural design of the Lotus Exhibition Center.

The center is a delicate representation of the three stages of a lotus flower in bloom and houses a public gallery, conference rooms, and office space. The public gallery is filled with models and exhibitions of Wujin’s colorful history. The meeting areas for government officials are futuristic and bask in natural light. At night, the elegant structure is illuminated in pale colors, and the refurbished park that surrounds it has become a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike.
