Someone truly dedicated to fashion wouldn't be caught dead in a sweater from last season when the Fall 2014 lines appear on the runway. Playing off this fickle relationship we have with our clothing, Dutch artists Lernert & Sanderunraveled sweaters from Céline, Prada, Chloé, and Jil Sander, transforming them into useless balls of strings.
The project, which is called "Last Season," changes our relationship with the designer objects. With the labels still attached, the balls of yarn still carry prestige and, as art objects, a high price. Like a painting, however, they're useless outside of their aesthetic value; they can't be worn.
This is not the first time Lernert & Sander have incorporated luxury brands into their art, and they always do so with a sense of humor. Last year the duo mixed every fragrance launched in 2012 to create on monster perfume called "Everything."
Lernert & Sander's balls of yarn will be on display in the clothing store Kiki Niesten during the art fair TEFAF from March 14-23 in Maastricht, Netherlands.
