New York-based artist Erika Harrsch is the creative genius behind a brilliant new exploration into the cultural implications of money. Utilizing paper currency from a variety of countries, Harrsch examines themes such as the proliferation of capital, circulation patterns, identity, and the growth and decay of value. This visual investigation takes the form of paper butterflies made from money.
Each delicate creature is crafted from an international bill and mounted to create an installation. Some of Harrsch's works depict magnificent flying patterns, catalyzing thoughts about the impact of trade and globalization. Another piece features singular butterflies pinned inside individual boxes, begging questions concerning the longevity of money.
