Freelance writer, curator, and editor Francesca Gavin is spreading the love with her new book The Book of Hearts. This tome showcases the heart as it has been interpreted by various cultures over time. The heart has long wielded symbolic power, but has been reinvented a dizzying number of times. This book seeks to uncover the symbol’s seemingly universal meaning, the one that has inspired everyone from prehistoric cave dwellers to ancient Egyptians to pop-artists.
“It’s incredible how broadly the heart can be visually played with. It can be whole, paired, cracked, broken, pierced, burning, locked, torn, cute; the perfect metaphor of the gamut of human emotion,” Gavin says.
The Book of Hearts can be purchased on Amazon for $12.
