This just in: Grillz aren't that great for your dental hygiene. The shiny mouthpieces have seen an increase in popularity—even amongst women—in recent times, and are no longer strictly a mainstay of Southern hip-hop. But what grill-wearers such as A$AP Rocky, Miley Cyrus, Kanye West, and Rihanna might not know is that grillz can cause the erosion of tooth enamel. This is according to Dr. Irwin Smigel, the president and founder of the American Society for Dental Aesthetic, who relayed this info to The Cut.

Smigel states that grillz are a haven for gum disease and bad breath, something that people like OG grill-rockers RZA, Flavor Flav, PaulWall, and SlimThug might not know about. And we're pretty sure pop stars like Madonna and KatyPerry definitely wouldn't want these negative side effects from their newly misappropriated toys.

We're not saying that you shouldn't visit your local jeweler and get some gold in your mouth, but if you see a cute girl who's smiling her diamonds all night, you might want to offer her some extra-strength gum. Her mouth might be gross.
