Ai Weiwei has been forced to shave his head by authorities on two occasions. The first was during the incident with police that left his brain hemorraging in 2009 and the second was during his 81 day detainment in Beijing in 2011. The Art Gallery of Ontario is currently exhibiting "Ai Weiwei: According to What?" and under organization by artist Sean Martindale will perform volunteer head-shavings as a show of solidarity for Weiwei and the countless others who have suffered the same persecution.

AGO and Martindale are in need of twelve volunteers for Solidarity Buzz: Shaving for Free Expression to take place September 5. The performance will include optional before-and-after photos to document the transformation and Martindale will also sacrifice his "shoulder-length" locks to the event.
