Brooklyn-based artist Oliver Jeffers is all set to open a solo exhibition at the Lazarides Rathbone Gallery in London. Jeffers has shown works in various galleries around the world but this will be the first time he shows a body of work alone in London.
"Nothing to See Here" is a new collection of oil paintings that are meant to "question and observe modern life and its many conundrums." Jeffers explores themes of knowledge and the desire to continuously learn more to feel empowered, versus finding contention in what is unknown. His works also question sources of knowledge and "the mundane," presenting scenes of "contradicting modern scenes and subjects with references to classical painting" as a way of suggesting that everything should be investigated before it is accepted as fact.
The exhibition opens September 12 and runs until October 3. Jeffers also has a picture book available that just became a New York Times #1 Best Seller, titled "The Day the Crayons Quit."
