Waterproof Injection-Molded Boots
Who Invented It: The Swartz family
Year Introduced: 1965
Timberland started with Nathan Swartz, who bought the Abington Shoe Company and eventually brought his sons into the family business. In 1965, they introduced injection-molding technology into the footwear industry, allowing them to connect the soles to leather uppers without stitching. The result was a virtually waterproof pair of boots.
